Joyn + NIKE

Joyn is a start-up that was created to offer the fat community a new way to engage with movement. We wanted to shift success metrics from numbers and scales to energy levels and mood. Joyn is data driven and has proven that most people (specifically woman identified folks want to move because it feels good, and are ready to let go of antiquated diet culture mentality.)

  • Product concept + Strategy : I helped concept the product strategy and have been the voice of the consumer since the inception of the project.

  • Instructor Sourcing : Using community sourcing + social media I was able to help source all of the Joyn Instructors (25 total).

  • Instructor Training + Strategy : Our community has been burned by the wellness industry, it has imperative that Joyn work with instructors in the community to help build healing experiences that allow users to meet themselves and movement in a new and fresh way.

  • Subject Matter Expert : Being a super-fat person, I have been able to weave my lived experience, combine with the experiences of my yoga students, and over 5 years experience in the fashion industry to help to articulate the needs of the fat community in regards to movement and wellness spaces.



NIKE

Inclusion Expert in Residence at Nike Valiant Labs - 2020

As the Inclusion Expert in Residence, this role required a deep dive into current processes and practices to illuminate potential areas of growth in communication, care, and team building within the Valiant Labs team, as well as the greater Nike Leadership team. I created an interview script around how people felt within their teams and Nike at large. From there I synthesized the interviews into data that helped me develop the inclusivity playbook. This playbook includes short-term and long-term experiments for developing a culture of belonging.

Working with Superfit Hero was a dream come true! We were able to accomplish two major things in our time together:

  1. We developed the Fit Guide program. This program featured fat positive influencers in the movement, self-care, fashion, and wellness space dedicated to access for folks in larger bodies. Through the program people are able to see how the products fit, and feel from people that they trust. The program is rooted in care from the guides to the customers who buy the products. Fit is one of the most challenging thing for plus brands and I think Superfit Hero is leading the way in the plus movement space.

  2. We re-imaged the sizing names, moving away from numbers and into something more vast and spacious. We decided to root down into nature. The sizing starts close to the ground and moves out into space. So it goes from earth to water to air to fire to star to nova to galaxy and into infinity. I wanted to make people so often left out of the fashion space to feel the infinite vast beauty of their bodies. Superfit Hero celebrates bodies and so though this process they shifted from an XS - 5X to L - 7X, this is a true access power move. I loved working on this project!

MMGE is a change management firm redefining innovation in the white-dominant change management industry. Leveraging the power of data and mixed-methods research. In this role I collaborated directly with the founder, McKensie Mack and Director of Operations Phillip Lambert, to help direct and support the team and flow of projects. In my time in the MMG C-Suite I learned about the importance of communication funnels, the power of team collaboration, and how to travel in a global pandemic safely.


Appalachian Retreat & Spa

Accessible + Inclusize Retreat center + Spa concept dreamed up by fat and disabled foks. Project is in the early planning phase

I loved helping the founder of this dream Laura Burns finalize the name, and initial pitch deck, and initial branding for fundraising and project plan pitching. I worked on the first phase of the concept and really hope it comes to life because the space sounds like an epic oasis with accessibility and care at the forefront.
