THE FAT ANGEL
UNBOTHERED COLLECTION

Fat Angel is a fat futurist brand dedicated to creating small batch clothing drops in collaboration with artists, and creators who want to bring more access for the fat community (aka trying to push beyond the 3x ceiling) Welcome to our first drop, I promise we will only get bigger from here!

UNBOTHERED was born in collaboration with @blahblah.4eva a friend and fellow creator who I personally work with for my own custom ice dye pieces. Each piece has been hand dyed by @blahblah.4eva, I sourced the base garments from Asos and Torrid In order to find sizes beyond 22/24 - 3x that would allow the price point to stay somewhat reasonable. I designed the patches and Krista (@blahblah.4eva) hand sewed them to the garments, she also added all custom hand embroidery additions!

I am releasing a small set of stand alone Fat Angel patches to add to any piece of clothing (Only 50 available). This collection features 5 delicious color ways celebrating our juiciness! ***Regarding sizing: I promise to you the next drop will go up to 8X and be a one-of-a-kind piece.

This collection invites you to wear what you want, to give a big FUCK OFF to flattering, and to be bold and beautiful just as you are. Fat freedom, bright colors, and comfort is what this collection has to offer. The models are myself, and the incredible MaryAnn Escutia! Our photographer who has been a huge support in imagining Fat Angel conceptual photos shoots is Michelle Lepe who helps makes these garments come to life.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey, I hope you enjoy these pieces, it has been a dream come true to concept and collaborate them into being. Fat fashion is one of my greatest joys!

Material + Care Instructions

Dress Materials: Vintage & Dead-stock Rayon

Care Instructions: Cold / Hand Wash + Air Dry

Created in collaboration with @allihalla a dear friend, designer, pattern maker, and seamstress who I work with for my own custom clothing when I can’t find pieces to fit my body.

Initially we created this dress in a completely different fabric but due to the pandemic, and shipping delays there wasn’t enough stock to create the amount we needed. Alli had to go in-person to LA to source our fabric, we decided to use a combination of vintage deadstock fabrics because we wanted this dress to be one of a kind, once deadstock is gone it’s gone.

After landing on the fabric, we perfected the design and fit. We fit the dress pattern for a 5X and worked up and and down the size chart to ensure the fit worked well. The Dress comes in sizes 2X - 8X, there will only be 50 made in total. This dress was designed to be a fat-exclusive, is made to be slightly oversized, can be dressed up or down, and has pockets. All dresses are hand made by Alli, in Portland Oregon.

The Creative Team

To showcase The Dress I worked with a cast of brilliant stylists, creators, photographer, models, and production folks to help tell this story. Michele Lepe was once again our brilliant photographer, making all of our photography visioning dreams come to life! Kanda Mbenza-Ngoma was amazing in both planning and on set working to create an experience for the models and cast day of. Kanda was core in the concepting of this visual story, while also helping to guide and work with me in preparation. Kanda wore many hats all while being our model doula. Coco Madrid helped us in concepting the vision both in styling and location. Correia Rouse was our incredible makeup and hair artist. Mallori Marks-McNally was our support and assistance on set. And of course Titus collaborated with me on set, and worked to gather behind the scenes footage to tell a full story. Titus also helped make our production come to life with motion to share with the world.

The Models

This dress was a dream to create, I wanted to work with Models who I love to create with and are part of my local Fat Community. Ruby Nelson is an amazing model based out of the Seattle Area, we had the pleasure of walking in a fashion show together and I couldn’t understand how a person could be so kind and genuinely curious about others. Ruby is a true angel! Shawna Farmer has been part of the fat fashion scene for years and was the founder of Chubby Cartwheels, a brand most of us fatties got our first properly fitting baby doll dress from! Stephanie Griffin the founder of Siren Song Stitchery, and a beautiful human through and through. Fun fact about Stephanie, she is an amazing commercial actress. MaryAnn Escutia is one of my dearest friends, and my partner in fat fashion endeavors. MaryAnn is not only beautiful but also has a fashion production and marketing background that makes collaboration super lovely.

Fat Self-Care Tips

This project was created for the fat community by the fat community. When wellness and self-care spaces exclude images and stories of healing showcasing fat joy, resilience, and liberation we have a harder time envisioning a world where all bodies are accepted without policing or violence. Fat Self-Care Tips is a series celebrating and honoring the wisdom of fat people and the ways in which we have learned to uplift and support ourselves in a culture that was designed to confine and minimize us.
